Donny van de Beek has agreed to join Everton on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the season.
With only one Premier League loan space left open after bringing in Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa earlier this month, Everton have been keeping their options open over further potential recruits ahead of the January transfer window closing on Monday night.
However, the ECHO understands that Van de Beek has chosen the Blues over Crystal Palace after Frank Lampard pushed hard for the player over the past 24 hours.
Everton made attempts to sign Van de Beek on the final day of last year’s summer transfer window and that, along with incoming new manager Lampard’s eagerness to bring him in on this occasion, have made a strong impression with the player.
There will not be an option to buy as Manchester United are still hoping that the 24-year-old can return to Old Trafford in the future as a more effective performer in English football after getting some more regular minutes under his belt between now and the end of the campaign.
The former Ajax man, who has been training back in Amsterdam in recent days, still has lots of friends at the club who sold him to United for £35million in 2020, including youth-team coach John Heitinga, an ex-Everton player, who is believed to have encouraged him to believe that Goodison Park could be the ideal place for him to re-launch his Premier League career.
