Donny van de Beek explains his best role at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek believes that he can help Manchester United in an attacking role by manager Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman has endured a difficult time at Old Trafford since arriving from Ajax in 2020. Van de Beek has struggled with injuries and has often been used as an impact substitute, rather than a starter. The 25-year-old has made just 19 starts in a Red shirt, with 35 of his 54 appearances coming from the bench.

Van de Beek has only featured on four occasions for United so far this term, with the midfielder having been sidelined with an injury. However, he is now back fit and ready to play after making a substitute appearance in the 3-0 win over FC Sheriff in the Europa League last week.

Ten Hag previously insisted that the 25-year-old is capable of being a useful attacking threat and playing between the lines. Now, Van de Beek has suggested that his best position in the United side is in an attacking role.

"It [playing an attacking role] is also one of the points how I can maybe help the team, play in between the lines and make my runs with the ball, give some passes. I just do my best and have to stay fit and just help the team," he told club media.

The Netherlands international also admitted that it had been difficult watching his teammates from the sidelines, but insisted that his situation was slightly different to other players.

Van de Beek added: "Yes [it's been hard], especially for some of the other guys who have played so many games. I was out for a while so, for me, it's a little bit different."
