Donald Trump's 2024 presidency odds as 'explosive' Piers Morgan interview set to air

Former US President Donald Trump is back in the headlines thanks to an upcoming interview with Piers Morgan.

The interview will feature on TalkTV and was done ahead of the launch of the News UK owned channel, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News International.

Morgan and Trump used to be firm friends, but fell out after Trump's time in office. The TV presenter described the 45th president as turning into a "monster".

Bookies' odds are strongly in favour of Trump's return to the White House, despite him describing the insurgents who stormed the Capitol building as part of the January 6 riots in 2021 as "beautiful people".

"We love you, you're very special," Trump said at the time.

The shocking scenes saw Trump supporters with Confederate flags, four deaths and people repeating Trump's false claims the election had been stolen in the chamber of the House of Representatives.

Piers tweeted at the time: "President Trump’s shameful legacy will now be that a confederate flag was raised inside the US Capitol building for the first time ever. It didn’t happen even during the Civil War. Horrifying."

So could Trump actually win another term?

According to Ladbrokes, Donald Trump is currently the favourite to take over from Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election, with odds of 3/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "The latest odds suggest Donald Trump could soon be set for a return to the White House."

Current president Joe Biden is close behind at 7/2 and this may indicate what is believed could be a close-run race in 2024.

A Wall Street Journal poll from March found Trump and Biden each at 45% in a hypothetical vote. The same poll suggested that the current president has been receiving praise for his handling of the war in Ukraine, but that voters continue to be worried about inflation.

Plenty of people in the US and around the world will be worried about the prospect of a Trump return to the White House, after he left under the cloud of the January 6 riots. He continues to contest the results of an election he lost despite no clear evidence suggesting him to be correct.

Comments about women, Muslims and immigrants also plagued his presidency - as did his handling of the Covid pandemic - and he is the only president to have been impeached twice.

The list of Ladbrokes odds for the winner of the next US presidential election is as follows:

  • Donald Trump - 3/1
  • Joe Biden - 7/2
  • Ron DeSantis - 6/1
  • Kamala Harris - 10/1
  • Mike Pence - 14/1
  • Nikki Haley - 20/1
  • Pete Buttigieg - 20/1

Will Donald Trump run for president in 2024?

With donations continuing to be made to Trump's political movement, it appears clear that he will try and run in the election in 2024, though admitted his health - the 45th president is now 75 - may stop him running.

He said to the Washington Post: "You always have to talk about health. You look like you're in good health, but tomorrow, you get a letter from a doctor saying come see me again."

However, he also added: "I don't want to comment on running, but I think a lot of people are going to be very happy by my decision."

Biden, who has reportedly told former president Barack Obama he plans to run in 2024, has said: "[In] the next election, I'd be very fortunate if I had that same man running against me."

It is likely that Trump will be able to run as the Republican Party candidate as he is reported to have a strong grip on the party still.

This is likely what is keeping the odds high for the next favourite GOP candidate, the Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis.
