Former Donald Trump has claimed his tax returns, which he fought for years to keep hidden, show how "proudly successful" he is.
The six years of tax returns were released by the Democratic-led House Ways and Means Committee.
The move to publish the returns comes just days before Republicans take control of Congress.
Responding to the Committee's decision and the publishing of his tax-returns, Donald Trump warned it will "lead to horrible things for so many people".
The fight to release the returns went all the way to the US Supreme Court but in November, the Republican packed Court, refused to block it.
In a statement released to CBS, Donald Trump said: "The Democrats should have never done it, the Supreme Court should have never approved it, and it's going to lead to horrible things for so many people.
"The great USA divide will now grow far worse. The radical, left Democrats have weaponised everything, but remember, that is a dangerous two-way street!"
Tax experts pouring over the release will focus on the periods in which Trump reported large financial losses allowing him to pay little or no income tax for entire years.
Much of Trump's campaigning in the lead up to his successful bid to become President focused on his boasts about what a good business man he is.
Trump became the became the first president in recent history to refuse to release his tax returns, a precedent set in efforts to make the position more transparent.
Previously published excerpts of his returns have shown Trump paid just $750 in federal income taxes in 2017 and 2018, as well as no income taxes at all in 10 of the past 15 years because he generally lost more money than he made.
The committee obtained six years of Trump’s personal and business tax records, from 2015 to 2020, with the only redactions from the filings including his social security numbers and contact details.
They span nearly 6,000 pages, including more than 2,700 pages of individual returns from Trump and his wife, Melania, and more than 3,000 pages in returns for Trump’s business entities.
Trump has claimed today's release shows how "proudly successful" he is.
He said: "The 'Trump' tax returns once again show how proudly successful I have been and how I have been able to use depreciation and various other tax deductions as an incentive for creating thousands of jobs and magnificent structures and enterprises."
The Committee's Republican leader Kevin Brady of Texas slammed the release as a “political weapon”.
In a statement he said:“This is a regrettable stain on the Ways and Means Committee and Congress, and will make American politics even more divisive and disheartening. In the long run, Democrats will come to regret it.”
