Donald Trump 'not man enough' to testify in probe into his role in Capitol riots

Donald Trump is 'not man enough' to testify in Capitol probe over his role in the attacks.

The former president has been summoned by U.S. Congress to testify to a special committee which is investigating the violent January 6 riots.

But House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi believes Mr Trump will refuse to obey a subpoena which requires him to give evidence under oath.

In an interview with MSNBC she admitted: "I don't think he's man enough to show up. I don't think his lawyers will want him to show up because he has to testify under oath."

"We'll see if he's man enough to show up."

The select committee investigating Mr Trump confirmed on Friday it had issued the subpoena and has given him the deadline of November 4 to submit a number of significant documents.

These will include the things he had planned before and after the January 6 attack by the pro-Trump mob, who were seeking to keep him in power despite President Biden winning the election.

The committee have also demanded the former president appears to give evidence under oath on November 14.

After losing the 2020 election Mr Trump has consistently said he was the victim of voter fraud which he claims lost him the presidency.

But this has been dismissed by multiple court cases and proven to be untrue.

He also believes he did nothing illegal on the day of the Capitol riot and has accused the select committee of being politically motivated against him.

Speaker Pelosi's comments at Mr Trump are just a number of the battles between the pair after both sharing a mutual dislike of each other.

Often the dislike was shared on camera including when the former president made his 2020 "State of the Union" speech to Congress which shows Ms Pelosi tearing in half the printed speech whilst sat behind him.

It led to him going to the House podium to begin his speech and refusing to shake the speaker's hand.

She has also launched two impeachment proceedings against him.

However, Republican Representative Liz Cheney admitted on Sunday that the former president has potentially committed criminal offences which the U.S. Department of Justice could prosecute him on.

She told NBC: "We have been very clear about a number of different criminal offences that are likely at issue here.

"He has demonstrated his willingness to use force to attempt to stop the peaceful transition of power.

"We have put on testimony that he admitted that he lost (the 2020 presidential election).

"But even if he thought that he had won, you may not send an armed mob to the Capitol.

"You may not sit for 187 minutes and refuse to stop the attack while it's underway. You may not send a tweet that incites further violence."
