Donald Trump's speech on Saturday sparked a lot of negative commentary, with viewers commenting on the loudmouth ex-President's "low energy".
The former US President spoke to Republicans at the state conventions in Georgia and North Carolina in his first appearances since an historic and damning federal indictment accused him of 37 felony counts.
During his speech, he blasted his historic indictment as “ridiculous” and “baseless" and tried to turn the dire legal peril to political advantage.
Meanwhile, athlete, actor and broadcaster OJ Simpson suggested that Trump should avoid talking in public about his mounting legal woes.
In a video uploaded on social media, Mr Simpson says: "Scrolling TV today and some things jumped right out. One is Donald waving what are supposedly secret documents and even admitting that they weren't declassified.
"I don't know if it was bluster or not. All I know is that cannot help you.
"I'm gonna share some advice that I got from some of the greatest legal minds of our generation in my lifetime....all told me and stressed to me.
"Do not talk about the case publicly. do not do interviews about the case.
"My point is, I don't know if Donald's lawyers are stressing this to him. If they're not they should be fired and he should sue them."
Ex-NFL star Mr Simpson was famously found not guilty in the murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman after being charged in 1994, in what became the trial of the century.
Online users found Donald Trump's first speech after the indictment to be low in energy and boring, with some expressing feelings of pity for Trump and describing the speech as sad.
@DerekFriday wrote: "Even Trump seems tired of his own low energy BS" while @TurndabaIIova said: "Trump is giving perhaps his lowest energy speech of all time in North Carolina."
Some users commented that Trump seemed tired of his own rhetoric.
@ithizar noted "He seems so low energy now. He doesn't want to be there. This is not the Trump of 2016."
@Ben_Morr said: "I just watched his speech from today. I officially feel pity for Trump. He’s low energy and boring as hell. He talked about 'complaining' about the 2020 election. It was so sad."
Another Twitter user said: "Trump looks really really bad. Just a tired sad old geezer & that constantly repeating yourself & fixated on things is a sign of early dementia. The Trump kids need to look for A Place For Dad."
Another wrote: "I've never seen a Trump rally with as little energy as the one today. Trump sounds exhausted.
"Same made-up stories every time. Conspiracy peddling, division, and all the hits. Guess he's losing sleep over this indictment. Don't worry, Donny, there are several more coming!"
In his Georgia speech, Trump made a funny voice as he joked about the "espionage" accusations and imitated the Democrat administration claiming Trump is "obstructioning... obstructing" justice.
He claimed that, as a former president, the handling of his documents falls "under what is known as the Presidential Records Act, which is not at all a criminal act and everything."
"It's all judged by the Presidential Records Act in this whole fake indictment. They don't even once mention the Presidential Records Act which is really the ruling Act, which this case falls under 100%," he said.
And added: "Because they want to use something called the Espionage Act and that sounds terrible. Oh, espionage. We got a box - I got a box..." to laughter from many in the crowd.
Among the most serious charges facing Trump are accusations he took and stored secret nuclear program files and described a Pentagon "plan of attack" to others.
He is accused of storing "information regarding defence and weapons capabilities of both the United States and foreign countries".
It alleges Trump kept classified documents in the bathroom and shower at his Florida estate, as well as various other locations that included a ballroom, storeroom, office and bedroom.
In addition, the documents also included "United States nuclear programs, potential vulnerabilities of the US and its allies to military attack" and "plans for possible retaliation" in response to a foreign attack.
