Trump's appeal coincides with the day he is expected to be certified as the winner of the 2024 election in Congress. This development comes four years after his unsuccessful attempt to overturn his election loss, which led to his supporters storming the US Capitol.
Last week, Judge Merchan denied Trump's request to dismiss his conviction based on his presidential status. Merchan has set Trump's sentencing for this Friday, clarifying that he does not intend to impose any jail time on the former president.
