'Don't want to imagine it' - Rio Ferdinand makes Liverpool admission after Champions League progress

Rio Ferdinand believes the quadruple is 'not beyond' Liverpool this season as they have the quality and mentality to succeed in their pursuit of three further trophies.

Liverpool progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night despite being beaten 1-0 by Inter Milan at Anfield.

Lautaro Martinez was on target for Simone Inzaghi’s side but the Reds’ 2-0 win at the San Siro in the first leg was enough to see them through 2-1 on aggregate.

Liverpool have already claimed the Carabao Cup after beating Chelsea on penalties at Wembley at the end of last month.

And with Jurgen Klopp’s players still in the hunt to win both the Premier League and FA Cup, the quadruple is now firmly in the Reds' sights.

Following the game against Inter at Anfield, BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey asked Ferdinand if 'he can imagine' Liverpool winning all four trophies this season.

And the former Manchester United defender replied: “I don’t want to imagine it. Listen, they have the quality.

“No doubt. This squad is full of winners, full of people with big passion and desire to go and win things.

“The mentality, the mindset is there, they’ve got a great manager pushing them. It’s not beyond them, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Liverpool are currently six points behind Manchester City in the Premier League table, although they do have a game in hand on Pep Guardiola's side.

And Ferdinand's fellow pundit Rachel Brown-Finnis believes it 'is nothing short of miraculous' the way the Reds have got themselves back in the title picture.

She said: “What they’ve done to get back into the title race is nothing short of miraculous. Living in Liverpool, people have faith in Jurgen Klopp.”
