'Don't really hear of that' - Curtis Jones open up on injury woes and sets Liverpool target

Curtis Jones has opened up on the injury woes that have hindered his progress at Liverpool.

The Reds midfielder has spent a large portion of this season on the sidelines through injury. The 20-year-old has been restricted to making just eight appearances in all competitions for Liverpool’s first team this term.

Jones signed a new long-term contract in November, which runs until the summer of 2027. The Reds academy graduate has been with the club since the under-nine level, and has worked his way through the ranks at Kirkby to reach the first-team.

However, last season saw Jones suffer from an eye injury which kept him on the sidelines for a large portion of the campaign. And now it’s a similar story, with the midfielder suffering from a “stress reaction” which has severely restricted his availability for selection.

Now Jones has reflected on the injury problems he’s suffered this season, and has explained why he’s looking forward to getting back into the matchday squad on a regular basis.

“As a young kid, I've always been a kid who has never really had injuries,” Jones told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I can't really think back to an injury or a time where I'd been struggling. So, yeah, this season and last, I've not been injured a lot, but it just seems like it's been a long time because of the injuries I have had.

“Last season was the time when I got poked in the eye and you don't really hear of that, getting poked in the eye in training to where I wasn't able to actually see for like four days, and then that took eight weeks to clear. Now I've had a stress response, which a specialist has said that you don't see a lot, especially coming back.

“Now I'm just at the point of where I'm fit again, I'm back on the pitch and I'm able now to play games and be involved in games. It's just a chance now to get my game time and rhythm back. So, I'm really excited.

Jones added: “I'm feeling great. As you can see, there's a smile on my face again. I'm excited, of course, and I just can't wait to play the next game.”
