Supermarket chain Tesco has recalled a popular cereal over two ingredients which weren't mentioned on the label - and could therefore cause unexpected allergic reactions.
The Express reports how the supermarket and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) have both now outlined what customers who have purchased a particular batch of the Tesco Free From Bran Flakes. The affected products are sized 300g and best before May 26, 2024.
The FSA said that some packs may contain a small amount of another kind of cereal variant - chocolate pillows - that contain milk and hazelnut (nuts) which are not mentioned on the label for the Free From Bran Flakes. "This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to hazelnut (nuts)," it said.
"Tesco is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers.
"These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."
Tesco told customers: "Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy to milk and/or hazelnuts, return the affected product to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required."
Tesco said it apologised for any inconvenience caused and urged customers to contact customer services for further information. The UK number is 0800 505 555, the ROI number is 1800 248 123.
The FSA echoed Tesco's advice: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to hazelnut (nuts) do not eat it."
