Dominic Calvert-Lewin transfer dilemma for Frank Lampard as Everton rebuild takes shape

The difficult case of Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one which could cause Frank Lampard sleepless nights. Cash in on one of their biggest assets to fund a rebuild, or make the England man the focal point of a new era?

After a strong end to the 2021/22 season, the Toffees should be looking to acquire new talent to avoid a repeat of last season's flirtation with relegation. However after star striker Richarlison's exit to Spurs, Calvert-Lewin continues to be linked with a Goodison exit.

The 25-year-old forward didn't get as much game time as management hoped last season. Calvert-Lewin missed 16 games after fracturing his toe last August and suffered an injury-ravaged season, but his return helped Lampard's men beat the drop. However recent reports suggest the striker is looking to move away from Merseyside, potentially leaving Everton with two pairs of big boots to fill before the transfer window closes.

Richarlison's £60 million deal should give Lampard financial security to start making some purchases to bolster the side, but should the squad restructure around Calvert-Lewin - an England international with designs on the World Cup?

The forward is undoubtedly effective and a talisman to fans, who have seen what he can offer when fit and firing, but his wages could be better put to use developing new talent to carry the club forward, especially if Calvert-Lewin is uncertain about his future with the Blues. Fans want players committed to the cause.

Everton have yet to sign any new players this transfer season, but many top strikers are being linked to Lampard's side. How many the manager signs could depend on what he decides over DCL's future.
