'Domestic disputes' heard in lead-up to Adelaide Hills woman's alleged murder by son

Police say a woman allegedly murdered in the Adelaide Hills was killed by her son.

The 36-year-old man was yesterday arrested at the Crafers West house he shared with his 62-year-old mother and later charged with her murder.

The woman's body was found by police in a rear shed on the Charlick Road property.

"Upon arrival there was enough to form an investigation [and] enough suspicion to arrest the subject," Inspector Michael Sampson told the media today.

He said a member of the public had called police after not hearing from the alleged victim in "a little bit of time".

He would not provide details about when the woman died, any injuries she suffered or any weapons involved.

Major Crime detectives and forensic investigators are expected to stay at the scene all day.

Neighbours said the alleged victim was a keen gardener and would often be seen walking up and down the hilly street.

One of them, Jake Stain, said he and his mother had heard "pretty serious domestic disputes" on and off over the past fortnight.

"It's pretty hectic. It's like living in a Stephen King novel," he said.

"To just have it happen on your road in a pretty quiet, nice neighbourhood is pretty shocking really."

He said the son had recently moved back into the woman's home.

The accused was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.
