Domestic abuser MP slaughtered for 'university rugby club' brag

A REFORM MP who battered his girlfriend outside a nightclub has been slated for attempting to brush off his criminal past – by boasting that he was the treasurer of his university rugby club.

James McMurdock, the MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock, repeatedly kicked his girlfriend in 2006 at the age of 19.

The victim’s mother has said that McMurdock left her daughter with “marks on her body” and that it “took two security guards to pull him off her”.

McMurdock, who went on to have a career as an investment banker, does not like to be reminded of his vile crime – and began making ridiculous boasts when pulled up about it by independent MP Zarah Sultana (below).

Sultana hit back at the Reform man after the pair got into a war of words on Twitter/X.

She slapped him down, saying: “Aren’t you the guy who got convicted for assaulting your then-girlfriend while drunk outside a nightclub?”

This unleashed an unhinged rant from McMurdock, who bragged about his high standing among the lads of the Sussex University rugby club.

He said: “I’m the guy who was the first in his family to go to university. Who co chaired the finance society and was treasurer for the rugby club. Who dragged himself out the gutter and built a life that most men can only dream of.”

McMurdock (below) added: “This weak gotcha has run its course.”

Which is a helluva way to say that your conviction is spent.

Twitter/X users mercilessly ripped him, with one saying: “Yes, I may be a convicted domestic abuser, but consider this: I was also in charge of the rugby club's annual shitting in a pint glass on the floor of the student union fund while at uni.”

Another added: “Boasting about being treasurer of his uni rugby club is up there with the all time rattled responses on this app.”

On a more serious tone, one commentator added: “And this is why I don't think James McMurdock has any place in Westminster. Rehabilitation is possible and so is redemption – but not unless you acknowledge what you did and atone for it. JM couldn't seem less sorry for his acts of violence against a woman.”
