Dolphins working out former Lions, Patriots DE Trey Flowers

While the Miami Dolphins are holding joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles, they’re still working to add more talent to their roster.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapaport, the Dolphins are working out defensive end/outside linebacker Trey Flowers.

Flowers was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2015 draft by the New England Patriots. During his four seasons with New England, he was part of two Super Bowl victories.

After his rookie contract ended, he signed a monster five-year, $90 million deal with the Detroit Lions in 2019, reuniting with his former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. Unfortunately, Flowers played just 29 games during his three seasons in Detroit, missing more than half of the last two years due to injuries.

When he’s healthy, the 29-year-old Flowers has been decent setting the edge and getting after opposing quarterbacks.

It’s unclear what his role would be in Miami, but he would bring more veteran experience to a defense that’s full of it.
