While the Miami Dolphins signed offensive Lamont Gaillard to fill their open practice squad spot on Wednesday afternoon, he wasn’t the only player that they had in for a tryout.
Miami had in three defensive backs – Nate Meadors, J.R. Reed and James Wiggins.
Meadors, 25, went undrafted in 2019 out of UCLA and has bounced around from the Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants in the last four years. He’s played in just three games, recording two tackles.
Reed, 26, went undrafted in 2020 out of Georgia. He has spent time with the Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Giants, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders and Detroit Lions since entering the league. He’s appeared in 16 games over his three-year career, recording 15 tackles.
Wiggins, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals back in 2021 after a collegiate career at Cincinnati. After spending part of his rookie season on injured reserve, Wiggins was released and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad at the start of 2022. However, he was released after just a week.
On top of the three defensive backs, the Dolphins also worked out guard Jordan Meredith and defensive tackle David Moore.
Meredith, 24, went undrafted in 2021 and was originally signed by the Rams, but he never made it to the active roster. This season, he was signed by the Raiders and spent some time on their practice squad.
Moore, 24, entered the NFL as an undrafted offensive lineman back in 2021 with the Browns. He spent his rookie year on their practice squad and part of this season there as well. This year, Moore has flipped sides of the trench, working on the defensive line.
Miami may have already made their decision, but that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t back to these names at a later date.
