The Miami Dolphins have been active with the free-agent market, making sure to keep their tabs on guys that they may be able to help them out down the line.
On Tuesday, Mike McDaniel’s team worked out five players, signing two of them to the practice squad.
Wide receiver Calvin Jackson and defensive back Jamal Perry were the players that were offered contracts, as they’ll join the practice squad and could be elevated at any moment.
Cornerback Malcolm Butler was probably the highest-profile name among the group of players working out. The former Super Bowl hero has spent time with the New England Patriots (two stints), Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans in his career, but he hasn’t played meaningful reps in nearly two years.
Wide receiver Dede Westbrook was also in on Tuesday. The former Jacksonville Jaguar and Minnesota Viking has had a couple of productive seasons since entering the NFL back in 2017. Over five years, he’s recorded 170 receptions for 1,788 yards and nine touchdowns. He could provide a decent veteran depth piece.
The final workout was wide receiver Alex Bachman. The 26-year-old former Demon Deacon went undrafted in 2019 before signing with the Los Angeles Rams. He’s spent most of the last three seasons with the New York Giants where he’s been a return specialist. That could be useful with how little Miami’s gotten in those areas.
