Dolphins rookie De’Von Achane compares himself to an All-Pro RB

While the Miami Dolphins didn’t select Texas A&M running back De’Von Achane until the third round of the 2023 NFL draft, the former Aggie might be the rookie that’s getting the most attention and anticipation.

Achane had a strong collegiate career, recording 2,376 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 6.4 yards per carry while bringing in 65 receptions for another 554 yards and five touchdowns. He was also an impact returner on special teams over his final two seasons, averaging 30.7 yards per return and taking two back for touchdowns.

Now in Miami, he has a chance to build on his legacy.

During a sitdown at the 2023 NFLPA rookie premiere, Achane was asked which running back he compares to in the league today. There was absolutely no hesitation in his answer – San Francisco 49ers back Christian McCaffrey.

Coming out of Stanford, McCaffrey was obviously more accomplished than Achane, as he was a first-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in 2017, but the two do have similar skill sets.

Both were versatile weapons on offense, being used in the run and pass games while providing extra in the third phase.

Since entering the NFL, McCaffrey has rushed for 4,726 yards and 38 touchdowns on 4.6 yards per attempt, adding another 3,756 yards and 22 touchdowns on 442 receptions.

To expect that type of production from Achane is a lot, but once he finds a role in Mike McDaniel’s offense, he has the potential to be a real game-changer.
