The Miami Dolphins are planning to have wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. practice with the team for the first time this week, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Beckham, 31, has been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list since the start of training camp due to an undisclosed offseason procedure that he underwent before signing with the Dolphins in May. While the receiver wanted to be activated from the list before the start of the regular season, Dolphins brass went against Beckham’s wishes and kept him on the PUP list at the end of August.
That decision meant Beckham had to stay on the PUP list for the first four weeks of the season. After the Dolphins’ Monday night game against the Tennessee Titans, the veteran receiver will be eligible to make his 2024 debut, although immediate contributions may be a stretch considering he’s still never practiced with the squad.
When the Dolphins open Beckham’s practice window, he won’t count against their 53-man roster limit for as many as 21 days. At any point in time during that three-week window, Beckham can be moved to the active roster and he’ll be available to play on game days.
Beckham signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Dolphins that includes $5.25 million in potential incentives. However, he won’t collect any of those bonuses if he can’t eclipse the numbers he put up with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023.
