Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa in active contract negotiations

The Seattle Seahawks are slated to host the Miami Dolphins in Week 3 at Lumen Field for the first time since the start of the 2016 season. This much is certain. What is more up in the air is whether or not the Dolphins starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, will have a new contract when he takes the field.

Currently, the No. 5 overall pick from the 2020 NFL draft is entering into the final year of his contract, which was a fifth year option from the team. Still, it is rather unusual Miami has not come to terms with their starting quarterback, who has led this team since midway through his rookie campaign. However, this might not be the case much longer.

Jeff Darlington of ESPN has reported that, despite no contract as of the moment, both sides remain active and “amicable.”

Regardless of whether or not both sides are able to come to terms before training camp or the conclusion of the summer, it is safe to say Tua Tagovailoa will be the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins when they make the trip to Seattle, regardless.

Week 3 will actually be the first time the Seahawks have faced off against Tagovailoa. The last meeting between Seattle and Miami was in 2020, which resulted in a 31-23 Seahawks victory, Tagovailoa did not play. Instead, Ryan Fitzpatrick was starting.

Miami’s offense will be the first real test for Mike Macdonald’s defense, who will start the season with back-to-back games against the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots. Under Dolphins head coach, Mike McDaniel (try not to get these names mixed up in September), Miami’s offense has been a powerhouse. Leading the way has been Tagovailoa, who has passed for 8,172 yards and 54 touchdowns in the last two seasons combined.

With the game being in mid September with presumably decent weather, the Dolphins offense should be as potent as ever.
