Dolphins OL coach tells what traits team is hunting for in 2025 NFL draft

The Miami Dolphins are looking for mental toughness as they seek to reload on the offensive line this offseason, according to one of the team’s position coaches.

“Everybody has size and all the measurables but dog mentality is something that I’m looking for,” Dolphins assistant offensive line coach Lemuel Jeanpierre told the Miami Herald earlier this week at the 2025 Senior Bowl. “Also a certain type of not just physical toughness but mental toughness because it’s a grinding position.”

Jeanpierre spent the week in Mobile, Ala. coaching the National Team offensive linemen, which included Oregon’s Josh Conerly Jr., NC State’s Anthony Belton, and North Dakota State’s Grey Zabel.

In January, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier made it clear that the offensive line will be an area of emphasis in the 2025 offseason.

“We’re going to have to invest in the offensive line now,” Grier told reporters. “We’re just older there now. So yes, this is the time, like we did a few years ago … this is the time for us to invest in some offensive lineman.”

The Dolphins already have a few long-term fixtures in place. Miami extended 25-year-old right tackle Austin Jackson and signed 27-year-old center Aaron Brewer to deals that run through the 2026 season. The team also drafted offensive tackle Patrick Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, presumably with the idea that he’d eventually take over at left tackle.

There’s little else up front, though.

Guards Liam Eichenberg, Robert Jones, and Isaiah Wynn struggled in 2024 and are all set to become free agents in March. Additionally, offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Kendall Lamm are both contemplating retirement with the latter set to become a free agent too.

The Dolphins are projected to own 10 picks in the 2025 NFL draft, beginning with No. 13 overall in the first round and No. 48 in the second.
