Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is usually as cool as they come, never showing signs of anger. But a question at Wednesday's press conference regarding quarterback Tua Tagovailoa particularly irked him.
Tagovailoa has catapulted himself to new heights this season and is performing like an MVP candidate as the leader of a Miami offense that’s lighting up the NFL. One reporter asked McDaniel about his thoughts on some people saying that several quarterbacks could do what Tagovailoa is doing if they had this much talent around them. He took exception to such an idea.
“I’m about to push this podium over,” McDaniel said. “My answer to that would be who the F cares? Because it is a team. We’re working together and I know one thing. I’ve coached stuff a long time, I haven’t seen people do what our guys do.”

Going into Week 7, the Dolphins are atop the NFL in yards per game (498.7) and points per game (37.2). Tagovailoa currently leads all quarterbacks in passing yards (1,876) and is tied with Kirk Cousins for most passing touchdowns (17).
It’s true McDaniel is the architect behind a masterful offense, but he harped on the fact that it’s a team game and Miami's talent is the reason for the sustained success—not just the system.
“I’m not in any hurry to prove myself without those guys,” McDaniel said.
