Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel commends RB Raheem Mostert’s strength and will as a runner

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert posted another multi-touchdown game in his team’s 42-21 rout of the Carolina Panthers in Week 6.

Mostert averaged 6.8 yards on his 17 carries totaling 115 yards with three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving.

It was Mostert’s third game of the season with over 100 all-purpose yards and multiple touchdowns. His performance was much needed since the Dolphins were without rookie speedster De’Von Achane who was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday.

When asked about Mostert’s performance, head coach Mike McDaniel spoke glowingly about the continued success of his starting running back.

“The guy is hungry for every opportunity, and I think you see his will in the way he runs the ball,” McDaniel said. “Down around the goal line, a lot of times the perfect play doesn’t exist, and it’s a battle of wills, and he’s not a guy that a lot of people want to tackle. I’m happy for him, as always. He was a big player for us today and will continue to be such moving forward.”

Following the game, Mostert is up to 5.7 yards per carry on the season. His 11 touchdowns have already topped his career high in a regular season.

The emergence of Achane over the past few weeks may have cast a small shadow over the play of Mostert, but there’s no doubt that the Dolphins have needed the veteran’s efforts to earn this 5-1 start.

With the rookie on injured reserve for a few more weeks, it’s certain that Mostert will shoulder the bulk of the carries in the meantime.

At this point, Miami’s offense has shown little weakness and no signs of slowing down.
