The Miami Dolphins have made a number of changes to their coaching staff since the season ended in early January, including parting ways with Vic Fangio and hiring Anthony Weaver to take his place and defensive coordinator.
During the hiring process, Miami appears to have lost another coach, as linebackers coach Anthony Campanile will not return to the staff in 2024, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson and Daniel Oyefusi.
Campanile, 41, had been with the Dolphins in the same role since 2020, surviving multiple head coaches and defensive coordinators. He was a candidate for the defensive coordinator role last year and this year and was passed up both times.
Since the hiring of Weaver, Miami is reportedly hiring former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry to take Campanile’s job as linebackers coach and a new role as run game coordinator (unheld in 2023).
The loss of Campanile is an unfortunate one, as he was clearly a team and fan favorite, especially after his highlighted segments on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” this past season.
Campanile will likely find a new job quickly and have another opportunity to interview for a defensive coordinator gig in the near future.
UPDATE: According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Silverstein, Campanile is set to join the Green Bay Packers staff under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.
