Dolly Parton's skincare routine: Why the singer always sleeps in her makeup

Dolly Parton is ignoring all professional skincare advice and sleeping in her makeup - but there's a good reason she wears her makeup for longer than 9 to 5.

As long as you’re not living on a remote island off the coast of Antarctica, you’ve probably seen Kerry Washington wiping her makeup off with Neutrogena wipes, social media influencers telling you about their nightly skincare routine that always starts with double cleansing, and dermatologists preaching about how bad it is to sleep with your whole day on your face.

Earlier this month when Kylie Jenner promoted her new skincare line with a video of her washing her face, she faced social media backlash. Twitter screamed "Kylie Jenner doesn't know how to wash her face!" while big sister Kim Kardashian poked fun at the makeup maven with her own face washing video. It's all proof that the Internet is obsessed with makeup removal.

But for Dolly Parton, it’s more important to look put-together at all times than it is to have clean pores.

“I clean my face in the mornings,” Parton told The New York Times in an interview about the expansion of her theme park, Dollywood. “You never know if you’re going to wreck the bus, you never know if you’re going to be somewhere in a hotel and there’s going to be a fire. So I leave my makeup on at night and clean my face in the morning.” Better safe than sorry.

This isn’t the only length Parton goes to preserve her perfect appearance.

The "Jolene" singer admits she has never been on a single ride at her theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. “I don’t ride the rides,” Parton said. “I never have. I have a tendency to get motion sickness. Also, I’m a little bit chicken. With all my hair I got so much to lose, like my wig or my shoes. I don’t like to get messed up. I’m gonna have some handsome man mess it up, I don’t want some ride doing it."

The country icon has certainly made plenty of statements with her hair and makeup choices over the years - and it seems like she'll continue to make more daily (and nightly).
