Dolly Parton has revealed why she had to turn down an invitation from Kate Middleton to have afternoon tea.
The Princess of Wales, 41, reached out to the queen of country music, 77, during a recent visit to the UK where Parton was promoting her upcoming debut rock album, Rockstar.
Sadly, however, the stars didn’t align as the Jolene hitmaker’s schedule was just too jam-packed, which she admitted she “felt so bad” about.
Appearing on BBC Radio 2, Parton told host Claudia Winkleman: “This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate and I felt so bad… I couldn’t even go! They had all this stuff set up.”
Parton went on to say she thought it was a “very sweet and nice” gesture for Prince William’s wife to think of her and vowed to one day take the mum-of-three up on the offer, adding: “And one of these days I’m going to get to do that… That would be great!”
The music icon then joked that there was another reason for skipping the royal visit, beyond just a busy schedule.
“She wasn’t going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no,” Parton said in jest.
