A young woman from Irvine is to star in a new production of ‘9 to 5 The Musical’.
Cassidy Murray will be playing the part of Doralee, made famous by Dolly Parton in the 1980 film version, in Kilmarnock Amateur Operatic Society’s production of the hit show.
Cassidy, 22, a chemistry teacher at Kilwinning Academy, is no stranger to the stage, having being involved in musical theatre from a young age.
She said: “I attended classes at Livewire Theatre Company and went on to become one of its teachers, specialising in drama, musical theatre and street dance.
“I have been performing with KAOS since I was 10 years old, when I really looked up to members of the company who were cast in the lead roles.
“Since then I was determined to achieve principal parts too and had the opportunity to play some excellent roles over the years such as Amber Von Tussle in ‘Hairspray’, Yvonne in ‘Sunshine on Leith’ and Eliza Doolittle in last year’s ‘My Fair Lady’.”
Cassidy said it is an “incredible privilege” to play the part which Dolly Parton made so famous.
She added: “Dolly Parton is also responsible for the wonderful music and lyrics of the show.
“I am so excited to take on an iconic character like Doralee.
“She has loads of country charm but she’s also strong enough to stand up for herself and what she believes in. She has the biggest heart and helps others to make a positive change in their lives.”
The musical is being staged at the Palace Theatre, Kilmarnock, from March 10 to 14.
Other cast members include Lynsey Campbell as Violet Newstead, Rachel Howat as Judy Bernly and Neil Warrander as Franklin Hart Jr.
