Doja Cat has lost over 230,000 followers on Instagram after branding her fans “crazy” on Threads over the weekend.
The singer, real name Amala Dlamini, has faced massive backlash from her ‘kittenz’, the pet name her fans have given themselves, for launching an attack on the use of the fan name.
In a series of now-deleted tweets, the Juicy hitmaker wrote: “My fans don’t get to name themselves s***.
“If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or f****** ‘kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.
“My life my rules my style my attitude [sic].”
Previously, she begrudgingly let fans decide their own fan name after putting out a poll in 2020 which allowed them to choose between “kittenz” and “cubs”.
She wrote at the time: “Because I don’t feel morally right pet-naming you guys.”
The US star has only used the name publicly to promote single Say So but fans have been using the label to show their support of her.
Following her social media outburst, fans, who she also branded “creepy” for allegedly using her given name online, have been left upset and have begun deactivating their stan accounts in their droves.
Three notable fan accounts that deleted their social media profiles include Doja News, The Kittens Room, and Doja HQ among others.
According to social media analysis company Crowdtangle, as per reported by Billboard, she has lost 237,758 on Instagram following a string of since-deleted posts.
Meanwhile Hype Auditor has calculated that she’s lost a total of 361,778 IG followers in the last four weeks.
Despite the mass unfollowings, her account still stands at a whopping 25.8million followers. She has however since deactivated her Threads account.
It’s unclear what’s sparked her outburst against her fans. Although, the Grammy winner has since tweeted: “Can’t wait to go on tour! Love you guys! Feeling blessed.
It is not known if her tweet is sarcasm or sincerity.
