A dog walker found a lethal spiked trap at a beauty spot popular with children and families.
The horrifying device - which he said 'could kill a small child' - appears to be a length of metal piping to which long nails have been welded.
He's now issued a warning to walkers and families using the area, saying there could be more of them buried beneath the land or left lying around. It's understood the site is also popular with horse riders.
The man, who has asked not to be identified, uncovered the terrifying trap as he walked his dog in Stalybridge, Tameside, on the site of the former Hartshead Power Station, near Carrbrook and Millbrook.
He said he believes it was put down to deter off-road bikers who use the land by popping the tyres of their motorbikes as they ride over it. The man's dog ran through a large puddle and knocked it out.
The picturesque Tame Valley Park site, once also home to Millbrook Sidings, is the focus of multi-million pound plans for a huge new community park and housing development.
The industrial buildings and structures have been empty and derelict since the 1980s, with the power station knocked down in 1989, and the site has a 'brownfield legacy' while being located within the green belt.
After writing of his find on Facebook, the dog walker told the Manchester Evening News he alerted Greater Manchester Police by calling 101 as well as the landowners.
He said on Facebook: "Found this today on the old power station land in Carrbrook, hidden in a puddle that my dog ran though and knocked it out of.
"Could of ended a lot worse, but if someone's made the effort of making one, there's definitely more.
"Kids play on that land, people walk dogs and ride horses. If a horse was to step on that, it wold be thousands of pounds in vet bills.
"I know these have probably been made to stop the off road bikes/cars, but at the end of the day they could kill a small child."
