Dog sitter outraged after pay drops to 58p per hour - but it's her own fault

An angry dog sitter is demanding that she still get paid the full amount of money, despite refusing to do everything she'd promised. Her fury was shared on Reddit by the dog owner, who explained why she'd made the decision to pay 'Bex' $16 (£14) a day instead of the original $50 (£42) a day.

In the viral post, the woman revealed that she'd known Bex for three years and asked her to dog sit while she was away for a week. Bex was meant to stay in the guest room and take care of dog Dana - but she slept in the master bedroom, didn't take Dana for one walk and smoked marijuana inside.

When the dog owner returned home from her holiday, Bex "hurried out" and asked her to transfer the $350 (£300) they'd agreed prior.

But when she unpacked, the homeowner discovered a red nail varnish stain on her duvet that proved Bex hadn't followed orders and slept in the spare room.

She planned to take the cost of the $250 (£215) duvet out of Bex's pay and send along a copy of the receipt, but Bex wasn't happy at all.

"She says this was 'a risk I took having someone stay in your home' and she really can't afford to have me underpay her'," the dog owner wrote.

"I told her I felt I was only obligated to pay her $100 ($350 minus the $250 duvet), and she told me to f**k right off and to think carefully about my choices and hung up on me."

The woman also discovered that Bex smoked marijuana inside and her doorbell camera revealed she hadn't taken Dana for a single walk outdoors.

Bex is now acting "really aggressive" and has blocked her friend's number, meaning she won't receive the remaining $100 (£85) payment.

Reddit users have bashed Bex for her actions and have collectively agreed that she isn't owed any money.

One person said: "You hired her to take care of your home and dog and she did neither, damaging one and neglecting the other. Why would you pay for a service she didn't provide?"

"She treated her home like a hotel," another wrote, while a third commented: "That's such an invasion of her privacy."

"Not only did she do $0 worth of work she went into an area of the house that she was specifically told was off limits," someone said.

Though some people stood up for Bex and argued that she was a "dog sitter not a dog walker".

"If you're going to do that, give her the duvet," a user suggested.

"Maybe it's me but does anyone else think $50 a day is cheap for house/dog sitting. Regardless of the rest of the mess," someone wrote.
