Dog's life saved by kind strangers just before disease spread to his brain

A group of animal lovers have come together to save a dog's life after his owner couldn't afford vital surgery.

Kiana Harris, 18, is extremely grateful to the strangers that helped to raise more than £5,000 for her beloved 10-year-old rescue dog, Bruno.

The poorly pooch was diagnosed with a common condition called 'cherry eye', inherited in certain breeds of dogs, which happens when the tear gland in the third eyelid becomes swollen and red.

Bruno needed the power of social media to fund his much-needed eye surgery before it spread to his brain.

So Kiana set up a GoFundMe page and promoted it on TikTok, where she racked up over 250,000 followers who contributed towards her goal.

Now, two months post-surgery, Bruno is thriving and back to his normal, energetic self.

Kiana, from Hawaii, said: "Brunos surgery went amazing! The vets said he was great under anaesthesia; he is doing much better now and definitely has more energy."

Speaking to all of his followers, Kiana added: "Thank you all for helping support Bruno in all ways possible! We appreciate every single donation!"

Kiana has looked after Bruno since she got him from the Humane Society three years ago, and says he is a very old, lazy and shy dog, but also very friendly.

She continues to share his progression online and his community couldn't be happier to watch his speedy recovery, fuelled with treats and cuddles.

Another heartbroken dog owner is pleading with the public to help save her puppy's life - but it's going to cost a huge £12,000.

Laurie Lewis, from Wallsend, North Tyneside, welcomed Truffle the shar-pei into her home earlier this year, then tragedy struck when she was diagnosed with a horror illness.

The nine-month-old pup was born with "one of the worst cases" of hip dysplasia the vet had ever seen, meaning she is unable to go for walks like any normal dog.

Truffle isn't even a year old and she already has one hip "floating out of [its] socket" and urgently needs several major operations.
