Dog owners warned of ‘treats laced with rat poison in Hackney park’

Pet owners are being warned to be vigilant after a dog allegedly died after eating rat poison left on a common in East London.

Several locals have reported finding dog treats laced with rat poison in London Fields, Hackney and near Daubeney Fields, E9.

Concerned resident Jessica Thomas took to a local Facebook group to warn dog owners about the “traps”.

“Have had reports from 2 people who have had their dogs poisoned by treats left in the park laced with rat poison!”, she wrote.

When asked if they had survived, she replied: “One did, the little guy sadly not!”

She claimed that police have been notified about the incidents.

Louis Staples had been walking across London Fields when he discovered dog treats laced with blue pellets.

In a post shared on Twitter, he wrote: “Watch out for your pooch if you walk around London Fields. People are putting treats and rat poising down!!!”

“…anyone who puts dog treats stuffed with rat poison in a park should die behind bars!!!”

Jacqui Dillon urged pet owners to be cautious as she warned locals in Facebook group about the issue.

She said: “POISON found in London Fields, Hackney, mixed in with dog treats. Stay on high alert as there could be more in other areas.

“Police have been informed. It is standard blue pellet rat poison which was left in a popular dog walking area.”

Poison has also been found with treats on a bridge near Daubeney Fields, Homerton according to Facebook group Hackney Wick Locals.

The Metropolitan Police have been contacted for comment.
