Dog owner issues warning as jellyfish wash up on beach

A dog owner issued an urgent warning after a "monster" was spotted on a Merseyside beach.

Large jellyfish have been seen washed up at Ainsdale beach which has lead to a stark warning from one worried dog owner. Taking to social media, Vilne Cuplinskaite said her dog was running towards what looked like a "ball".

It was only as they got closer they realised it was in fact a large jellyfish. Managing to stop her dog before she got too close, Vilne urged others to remain vigilant and avoid any unwanted disasters.

She wrote: "To all dog owners out there who like to let their dogs run free on a beach... we came across this monster washed up on Ainsdale beach. Apparently even dead jellyfish can sting and therefore is dangerous to dogs.

"I didn't think such big ones existed round this area, but evidently they do. So watch your furbabies while out there. I barely recalled mine in time before she got too close as I didn't realise what she was running towards to at first. It looked like a ball from a far."

Photos taken of the beach show a large jellyfish on the sand. The "monster" jellyfish quickly grew attention as many people were shocked by its huge size.

It’s not the first time the Mersey shoreline has been bombarded by gelatinous invaders, as over the years, hundreds of large jellyfish have been spotted. Photographs taken by the ECHO also show giant jellyfish being washed up at Formby beach.

Many people were quick to comment on the social media post as one person said: "Now I realise why I never would even paddle in Southport waters. I remember years ago, paddling in Birkdale beach and it was just full of jelly fish, but only small ones."

Another added: "Oh my gosh that’s insane!!! The size of it!! That could have been a very nasty sting", as a third wrote: "Wow that's a beast of a jelly fish."
