A man has been fined for allowing his dog to poo in his own garden. The owner, who has not been named, has been hit with a fine of more than £750 for the faeces littered across his garden.
Neighbours complained about the smell of the dog waste, but the owner ignored four notices to clean up the mess before being taken to court. The owner was first served with a Community Protection Warning last October, reports Wales Online.
A deadline of a week was given to clean up the dog dirt but no action was taken by the resident. Council officials stepped in and inspected the property.
The resident was subsequently prosecuted for not complying with the Community Protection Notice and failing to remove the waste. The defendant did not attend court on April 19, but the case was proven in their absence.
Fines of £754 must now be paid before May 17 or further legal action will be taken, with one neighbour saying the stench could become unbearable as the weather gets warmer.
They said: “I don’t know the person involved but I know the neighbours have been getting fed-up with the smell and having to look at it all the time.
“It’s pretty rank, especially when the weather gets warmer. You can only imagine how bad the stench will be. I think everyone’s pretty happy that the council have taken action.”
Another said: "If you keep pets then you have to clean up after them but at least all the mess is in their own yard and not left on the paths were kids can step in it."
On February 2, the Neighbourhood Warden received another complaint with regards to dog poo and a breach latter was sent to the resident and a further statement submitted to the court.
Ian Hoult, council neighbourhood protection manager, said: “The build-up of mess in the yard was not only unsightly, but was becoming a health risk, specifically for children in the area which is unacceptable. We receive almost 4,000 reports a year about untidy yards and gardens that are having a negative impact on our communities.
“On investigation we give people the chance to rectify the problem, however we will take action against those who don’t.”
