A dog owner has been left horrified after discovering a sausage with nails sticking out of it in a local park.
Carrie Ingham was walking her dog Winston when she spotted the the potentially fatal snack for dogs off the lead.
Thankfully, the Lancashire woman managed to pull Winston away from the spiked sausage that had been left lying there, Lancs Live writes.
Carrie is now warning other owners to be aware of the threat to stop their pets being hurt or killed by eating them.
Stunned Carrie discovered the sausage in Mercer Park in Clayton-le-Moors.
She said: “I’ve just found a sausage full of nails whilst walking Winston around Mercer Park.
“Dog owners please be careful.”
Carrie, who works at Card Factory said that Winston managed to have a "sniff at it" "but luckily he was on the lead so I managed to pull him away in time".
Shocked local Courtney Prestage said: “This is actually vile.
“I genuinely hate the human race.
“What are people even trying to achieve by doing this?
“Horrible scum should be forced to eat it themselves.”
Another Joanne Beardmore added: “Oh my God, what the f**k is wrong with people.”
Dog food filled with nails was found in the same park just three years ago, by 34-year-old John King.
In 2019, local residents also found cheese containing hidden nails at a street just five minute’s walk from the park.
Last January, a 19-month-old Afghan Hound called Azaar was killed in Wokingham, after nail-stuffed pigs-in-blankets tore through him.
It caused internal bleeding, followed by organ failure, extreme dehydration and blood loss.
Lancashire Police has been approached for comment.
