Dog found tied to RSPCA Wirral gates is one-year-old dog called Benji

The RSPCA has confirmed the name and age of a dog found tied up outside its Wirral headquarters.

The male dog was found tied to the gates of the charity's Wallasey-based centre yesterday, April 6, prompting staff to appeal for information about its owner on social media.

The post sparked a debate among RSPCA supporters, as some believed the dog had been abandoned. However, an RSPCA Wirral spokesman said: "We don’t know that someone hasn’t found him and an owner is looking for him."

Staff have now identified the dog as a one-year-old dog called Benji, confirmed by his microchip details. In an update, they said the dog was "feeling a bit happier today". Staff believe he may be a shar pei.

The RSPCA added: "They are still trying to find out more information, including where he has come from."

Anyone who knows who Benji belongs to is asked to email rspcawirral@btconnect.com.
