Mia, the eight-year-old golden retriever, used to have the run of the beach to herself.
Her dad, Cardiff's Jared Denny, would throw the ball out into the water, and she would bound after it with that pure joy peculiar to the breed.
And then came Halle.
As Mr Denny threw the frisbee out into the water off Horseshoe Beach Thursday morning, Mia raced after it with Halle in tow, but one frisbee and two golden retrievers make for a team affair.
They paddled it back together.
Halle and Mia weren't strangers to the spotlight, but by the time they made it home, they were worn out.
Mia will turn eight in a couple of days, Mr Denny said. Halle is almost two years old and is said to be very well-behaved, even though she still acts like a puppy.
The water temperature on the beaches is warming up as the summer months inch closer, but surf conditions are expected to remain small as a weak trough along the coast does little but disrupt local winds, according to Surfline analysts.
Early morning offshore winds are tipped to offer the best chance, with a possibly favourable outlook early Saturday morning as the southerly swell peaks.
Winds were light and south-easterly for much of Thursday, according to observations by the Bureau of Meteorology, and were expected to remain the same into Friday, November 1.
The chance of rain last night was slightly higher in the suburbs, as was the chance of a warmer weekend, with the mercury set to top 30 degrees on Sunday.
The long view shows a warmer start to next week, in the high 20s and partly cloudy conditions, with further possible showers on Tuesday.
