A dog was reportedly found tied up without any food or water - with a sign saying he was looking for a new family. The woman who found the dog, named Woody, outside a house in Stafford said she could not believe what she was seeing.
The Good Samaritan, named only as Sophie, said the poor pooch was wearing a shock collar - an electronic device that emits an electronic pulse to stop unwanted behaviour in cats or dogs that has long been criticised for being cruel by animal welfare campaigners, including RSPCA Cymru.
A handwritten sign that was allegedly found near the tied-up canine read: "Hello! My name is Woody. I am looking for a family. I love children and am cat friendly. If interested, please give the door a knock." The note was signed off with a picture of a paw print, BirminghamLive reports.
Rescuer Sophie said she came across the pet on Tuesday, September 27, while he was tied up on a patch of grass. She fears he had been left there for a "couple of days".
Fortunately, Woody was rescued by Sophie, who took him home into the warm and fed him and gave him water. On the day Sophie took him, she urged people not to buy a dog if they cannot look after it properly.
She said: "It looks like it has been there for a couple of days. There were empty dog bowls next to him and an electric collar on the dog. So tonight, we rescued the dog and took it to a warm home, fed him and gave him water.
"How can anyone be so cruel and spiteful to an animal? Don't buy a dog if you can't look after it."
Sophie told BlackCountryLive that she rang the police but was told she would need to speak to the RSPCA regarding the matter. She added that someone she knows has now taken Woody in. "My friend has taken him in for a loving forever home," she said.
