The Los Angeles Dodgers will face the New York Yankees in the World Series for the first time since 1981, when the Dodgers beat the Bronx Bombers.
The two teams have battled each other for the World Series title a total of 11 times, and the Dodgers won two other times, in 1955 and 1963.
Neither the Dodgers nor the Yankees spared any expense to bring some of the best players in Major League Baseball to their teams, and their contracts didn’t come cheap.
Collectively, the Dodgers’ 26-player active roster salary for 2024 amounts to $266 million, compared to $263 million for the Yankees, based on payroll data compiled by Spotrac.

The highest-paid Dodger on the team's payroll is Shohei Ohtani. In 2023, he signed a 10-year contract valued at $700 million, a record amount for a baseball player. Most of that money will be in deferred payment, but his average salary this year comes out to $70 million.
The second-highest-paid player is shortstop Mookie Betts, who will be paid $30 million this year. In 2020, he signed a 12-year, $365 million contract.
Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers' first baseman, is paid $27 million this year, part of a 6-year, $162 million contract signed in 2022. A World Series win could aid a player set to be in free agency after the season in negotiations for higher pay.
