Doctors warn against TikTok trend that could 'cause harm' to your new baby

Doctors have warned against a dangerous TikTok trend that could seriously harm your newborn baby.

Several videos of chiropractors using a range of unproven treatments on young babies have gone viral online causing major concern for healthcare professionals.

One chiropractor who runs a family clinic in Texas has amassed thousands of followers after carrying out uncongenial and potentially dangerous techniques on newborn babies, reports Buzz.

In one video, the chiropractor can be seen holding a six-day-old baby using a handheld device called a vibracussor on the baby's back.

Since the video, thousands of other similar methods have surfaced online showing babies undergoing chiropractic treatments.

The accounts claim that the care they provide for babies relieves pain from colic, constipation, reflux and musculoskeletal problems.

However, onlooking doctors have spoken out against the practice, with some saying promoting these treatments is risky, especially in the hands of someone who isn't a trained professional.

Sean Tabaie, an orthopaedic surgeon at Children's National Hospital in D.C., told The Washington Post: "Ultimately, there is no way you're going to get an improvement in a newborn from a manipulation. The only thing that you might possibly cause is harm."

Anthony Stans, a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Mayo Clinic Children's Center in Rochester, Minnesota, added: "To my knowledge, there is little to no evidence that chiropractic care changes the natural history of any disease or condition."
