Doctors under the banner of the district unit of Indian Medical Association in Yadgir has expressed deep dismay over an incident in which a physician ended her life after a case of murder due to medical negligence was registered against her in Rajasthan recently.
They submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police C.B. Vedamurthy on Sunday.
The doctors said that the situation that was created by the law enforcing authorities led the doctor to end her life after she was accused in the case of medical negligence. This incident has shocked medical professionals who are now facing insecurity while discharging their service to patients, they added.
They also said that the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court of India while pronouncing judgment in Jacob Mathews vs Union Government are not being followed strictly by the law enforcing authorities. The guidelines speak clearly of the arrest of medical professionals in cases involving medical negligence, they added.
The doctors requested the Police Department to protect them as they were doing their duty efficiently and serving patients even in adverse conditions to save their lives.
The former MLA Veerabasantreddy Mudnal, who is a doctor by profession, Rajendra, Pradeep Reddy, Sunil Mooknur, Vaijnath, all doctors, and others were present.
