Doctor Who's David Tennant returns to time traveling BBC show with Catherine Tate for 60th anniversary celebrations

Scots Doctor Who star David Tennant will return to the time traveling BBC show with Catherine Tate for the show's 60th anniversary celebrations.

The two celebrated actors will reunite with head writer Russell T Davies for the big occasion in 2023 - and the news has got fans in a whirl.

David Tennant last appeared on the show, joining Doctor Matt Smith for the programme's 50th anniversary in 2013, and the news comes as fellow Scot Ncuti Gatwa has been announced as the show's new Timelord.

David played the 10th Doctor from 2005-2010, while Catherine played his popular companion Donna Noble.

It is currently unknown if the two actors will join Ncuti on screen but Russell T Davies told fans: “They're back!

"And it looks impossible - first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening?

He added: "Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback.

"The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime.”

David and Cartherine's 2008 series of Doctor Who had an average audience of more than eight million viewers per episode and was nominated for best drama at that year's Bafta TV Awards.

David's Doctor split from Catherine's Donna when he had to wipe her memory to save her life.

He warned her family: if ever she remembers, she will die.

Now fans are left. to wonder what circumstances will bring them back together.
