Doctor warns of 'stinky' reason you should clean belly button daily

Whether you've got an innie or an outie, doctors have highlighted the importance of cleaning your belly button every day - because nobody wants theirs to be stinky.

And if you don't pay attention to your belly button, the consequences could be seriously gross, forming an "accessory that you don't want."

NHS surgical doctor Dr Karan Rajan was keen to shed light on one rather unpleasant potential consequence of neglecting our belly button hygiene on TikTok - and people were horrified.

"Be honest now - when was the last time you properly cleaned your belly button? I mean a dedicated belly button scrub."

"Because of the shape of the navel, things like hair, oil, dirt, skin cells, and fabric can collect in here and form natural jewellery, aka belly button stone", Dr Karan shared.

"This is an accessory you do not want. These are stinky and can cause infections"

He then recommended that you clean your belly button at least once a day with soap and water, and you could do it with a Q-tip, gently.

In another video about belly buttons, Dr Karan shared that the bacteria found in the belly button can "be used to make cheese." Now that's a dairy product we'd rather avoid.

In the comments, people were horrified, but not shocked at the importance of cleaning the belly button.

"Ok, but every time I'm cleaning my belly button, why does it feel like I'm poking my soul?", someone asked.

"I can't be the only person that cannot have my belly button touched. It goes right through me", another agreed.

"People don't clean their bellybuttons every time they wash?", a horrified TikToker asked.

One squirmed: "Why did that feel like my belly button was hurting whilst watching that?"
