You may think you've got your morning hygiene routine down to a T, but it turns out you may need to reconsider the routine you're doing - especially if you're washing your face before cleaning your teeth. Everybody is different and does things in various different ways, but one dermatologist has revealed that there is definitely a better way for your morning routine if you're using toothpaste before you've washed your face.
Dr Lindsey, aka @dermguru, posted a video to TikTok explaining why it's so important to wash your face after cleaning your teeth because otherwise, it could be 'destroying' your skin, rather than making it clear and glowy.

The video has an explanation over the top which reads: "If you're brushing your teeth after already washing your face, you're destroying your skin.
"Bacteria in your mouth from the dribbled out toothpaste can cause acne on your chin and leaves leftover toothpaste with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, baking soda, and fluoride sitting on the skin all night."
She then explains that it can cause terrible irritation and dryness on the skin.
People were shocked in the comments, not realising the impact the toothpaste could have on the skin.
One wrote: "This just changed my life!"
Someone else commented: "I figured this out after my chin kept breaking out! I switched to brushing first and it cleared up in about five days!"
Another joked: "Remember when we used to put toothpaste on our pimples, or was that just my family?!"
Dr Lindsey replied saying it's an 'old wives tale which many still believe'.
"Wait. Literally makes so much sense!", another realised.
"I found this out the hard way", someone else fumed.
Another wrote: "Oh my gosh thank you! I'm changing my bedtime routine now!"
"I brush my teeth after washing my face and always wonder about this! Thank you for confirming haha", another TikToker commented.
