Doctor offers interesting insight into Joe Burrow’s injury outlook

When we analyzed the pros and cons of shutting down Joe Burrow until after the bye, one of the big cons was the fact a rest period might not do that much for this type of nagging injury.

A Sports Medicine Physician has reinforced this idea this week for the Cincinnati Bengals. During an appearance with The 33rd Team, Dr. Jess Flynn noted the following: “I don’t see shutting him down for a short period of time making a huge difference.”

Burrow’s playing fate and what the team does will ultimately come down to what team physicians and doctors say, of course. But it makes sense that if the five or so weeks during the summer didn’t get Burrow to 100 percent, why would another five weeks in the middle of a season?

And to tack onto that — how many times have we ever heard of players getting healthier during the middle of a season?

This probably isn’t very reassuring to fans, but it’s probably a sign Burrow will be out there toughing it out, until it doesn’t make sense standings-wise for him to be, if it ever reaches that point.
