A doctor has issued a warning as coronavirus rates continue to surge across the UK.
The latest data from Public Health England showed the rate of positive tests had risen by a third in the Liverpool City Region. Figures showed there were 3,564 cases in the week ending June 27, which is 885 more cases than the previous week.
The increase is in line with soaring rates nationally and is due to the rise of Omicron sub-variant BA.5, The number of daily symptomatic infections has exceeded 300,000 and the professor who leads the Zoe Health Study has warned the rate will soon hit record highs.

UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance says people with symptoms "of a respiratory infection, such as Covid-19, and who have a high temperature or do not feel well" should "try" to stay at home and avoid contact with others. If you receive a positive covid test, it says, you should "try" to stay at home for five days.
