The situation in Rafah, a city in southern Gaza, is dire according to a doctor currently working in the area. Dr. Safa Jaber, speaking to Doctors Without Borders (MSF), described the harrowing conditions in an audio message with English subtitles. Jaber expressed the fear and uncertainty felt by residents due to ongoing clashes, bombings, and rocket fire throughout the night.
She mentioned that the clashes were occurring in two different locations in the Tal al-Sultan area, causing widespread panic among the population. The sudden escalation of violence has left residents feeling helpless and scared for their safety, especially for the children.
Jaber highlighted the challenges faced by the community, including the lack of safe spaces after previous incidents of tent burnings. Despite attempts to seek refuge in designated safe zones, the reality of living in tents exposed them to extreme weather conditions, scarcity of clean water, and basic necessities required for survival.
The doctor emphasized the dire living conditions, describing the situation as 'very miserable' with residents struggling to cope with the uncertainty and hardships brought about by the conflict. The need for essential services and a safe environment to protect lives and ensure the well-being of the community is paramount.
