Nurses, ambulance workers, postal workers and railway workers are among those taking strike action over pay and working conditions this winter.
And with a number of strikes scheduled to take place over the festive period, people are being warned to expect disruption. Passengers are being advised to check before they travel as rail union RMT stage further strikes from 6pm on Saturday December 24 to 6am on Tuesday December 27.
While Royal Mail has apologised to customers for "likely" disruption as CWU (Communication Workers Union) members continue national strike action on December 23 and 24.

Nurses will strike on Tuesday, followed by ambulance workers on Wednesday. And this is set to continue after Christmas with paramedics and care workers also expected to strike on December 28.
A meeting of the Cobra contingencies committee took place on Monday morning with another planned for Wednesday as Government ministers consider how to cope with the wave of industrial action affecting not just the NHS but the rail network and other public services.
Rishi Sunak has pleaded with unions to call off NHS strike action with a warning about the impact the walkouts will have on people's health. The Prime Minister insisted the Government was "happy to sit down and talk" with unions but ministers have so far refused to discuss pay, one of the major factors behind the disputes.
