Do the Raiders need to add a better backup behind Josh Jacobs?

Josh Jacobs continues to hold out as he has yet to sign his franchise tag. That means that second-year running back Zamir White has gotten a chance to run with the starters as the team’s lead back. Depending on who you believe, that experiment has had mixed results.

In a recent article by Greg Rosenthal of NFL.com, he wrote about White after getting the start in Week 1 of the preseason. Here is a snippet of what he had to say about the second year back from Georgia:

The Raiders gave Zamir White a heavy workload with Josh Jacobs still holding out. White has not shown much thus far to believe he’s more than a backup.

White carried the ball 13 times in Week 1 of the preseason, racking up 43 yards and a touchdown. It’s hard to criticize him too much as he was playing behind a makeshift offensive line, but he doesn’t didn’t break a tackle in the game, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Raiders are still hopeful that Jacobs will return to the team soon and that White can continue to make strides. But if White doesn’t improve (by a lot) over the next few weeks, it’s possible the Raiders could look to add another quality back in case Jacobs doesn’t return by Week 1.
