'Do not eat' warning announced amid urgent recall for sauce

An urgent product recall has been issued by Aldi. The recall warning is over a table sauce that customers are being told not to eat.

Shoppers who have purchased the Bramwells Tartare Sauce can return it to the store and get a full refund, reports Coventry Live. The budget retailer said the recall is because the product has been incorrectly labelled.

The Food Standards Agency said in a safety warning: " ALDI is recalling Bramwells Tartare Sauce because it contains sulphites which is not mentioned on the label.

"Due to mis-packing, Bramwells Tartare Sauce labels have been incorrectly applied to Bramwells Horseradish Sauce. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites."

The sauces in question have the product codes 73685 and 40691. They are the 175g pack size. The batch code is 2118. They have a best before date of April 2023.

The Food Standards Agency stressed that people should not consume the sauce. Their statement said: "If you have bought the above product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."

Aldi has also issued a statement. Their recall notice said: "As a precautionary measure our supplier is recalling an isolated batch of Bramwells Tartare Sauce because it may contain undeclared sulphites. Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.

"We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation." For further information, customers should visit www.aldi.co.uk or contact https://customerservice.aldi.co.uk/contact.
