Do Colts have enough salary cap space for the offseason?

Do the Indianapolis Colts have enough salary cap space for the 2025 offseason?

At the moment, Over the Cap has the Colts with $28.24 million in cap space, which ranks as the 18th most.

However, that isn’t what the Colts have available to spend.

The Colts’ current effective cap space total is $24.36 million and takes into account the cap space needed to sign in the incoming draft class along with the top 51 contracts on the roster, which is what makes up a team’s salary cap figure.

In addition to that, teams also want anywhere from $5 million to $10 million in available cap space heading into the season as reserves for any potential in-season spending that could take place.

So the real question is, is $15-ish million in cap space enough for the Colts this offseason?

Probably not. As GM Chris Ballard sets out to infuse this roster with more competition, one would presume that this means there will be at least some free agent spending. And even if you’re not signing top of market it players, it only takes three or four modest cap hits to wipe away $15 million in cap space.

Now, the Colts do have the means to create quite a bit more room through contract restructures. If you want to dive into all that goes into those cap maneuvers and see how much cap space the Colts can create if Ballard pushes it to the limit, click here.

To some degree, a few restructures in order to create additional salary cap space–which isn’t uncommon–will likely have to be apart of the Colts’ upcoming offseason.
